Lynn Teachers Union
The Lynn Teachers Union grants three (3) $1,500 scholarships. All students enrolled at Lynn Classical High School, Lynn English High School and Lynn Vocational Technical Institute, who plan to further their education, are eligible for these scholarships. All other high school seniors in alternative programs may compete with the students in their home school district.
Scholarships will be awarded based on the Labor History Exam. The date the exam will be given is Wednesday, February 1, 2012. The deadline to register for the exam is Monday, December 19, 2011. Copies of the criteria, application and the study information guide may be obtained by clicking here. Please encourage students to see their guidance counselor by Monday, December 19, 2011 to register for the exam.
American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts
AFT Massachusetts awards several scholarships to dependents of AFT Massachusetts members. Applications for the Shanker/Feldman/Porter Scholarships will be available online by clicking here.
The dependent student must also arrange with their high school guidance office or principal to take the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Scholarship Exam. The exam will be given on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at those high schools who request scholarship exams from the Massachusetts AFL-CIO. Students attending school outside of Massachusetts should have their guidance office notify the Massachusetts AFL-CIO of their wish to participate in the exam in sufficient time to allow delivery of exam materials.
American Federation of Teachers
The American Federation of Teachers Robert G. Porter Scholarship is a four-year $8,000 post-secondary scholarship. Applicants must be the dependent of an AFT member. Also, one-time $1,000 grants are available for AFT members who are pursuing their education. Massachusetts AFL-CIO
The Massachusetts AFL-CIO Annual Scholarship Program offers additional scholarships based on the Labor History Exam. This year’s Labor History Exam will be given on Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Please have students contact their guidance counselor at the high school and let them know they wish to participate in this program. Also, have students fill out an application and return it to the Massachusetts AFL-CIO by Monday, December 19, 2011. Once they have filled out an application and submitted it to the MA AFL-CIO, they should notify their guidance counselor that they are “registered” for the Labor History Exam.
